About Us
Braintree & Bocking History Society was established over 50 years ago, and continues, with a growing membership of over 60, to entertain and educate through an annual program of presentations and visits to places of interest.
The programme of presentations for this current year 2009-2010, and for next year 2010-2011, are listed below. They provide an indication of the scope which covers both aspects of local history as well as items of more general interest. Trips arranged in this current year are to Burghley House, Stamford and a guided ‘Church Crawl’ to villages in the Framingham area of Suffolk. We meet at St Paul’s Church in Hay Lane South, Braintree on the 4th Monday of the month, commencing September through to March, with the exception of December when a social event is organised in the second week.
From the 2010-1011 season an additional two presentations will be organised for April and May. Presentations start at 8 p.m. but members are encouraged to arrive early to mingle, when tea and coffee will be available from 7.45 p.m. for which a donation is requested. Subscriptions for the meetings in 2010-2011 will be £10.00 per person payable at the first presentation in September. Individuals may attend meetings on an ‘ad hoc’ basis for £2.00 per person per evening. New members of all ages are warmly welcomed, and potential speakers may contact the Secretary by e-mail as below
